What is it?
Flightcell is a portable self-contained communications interface which enables hands-free use of an Iridium 9505 phone, in conjunction with an aviation headset, in aircraft or other high-noise environments such as a military, agricultural or construction vehicles.

Flightcell runs off aircraft power or its own rechargeable batteries, providing a cost effective option for rapid deployment of Iridium communications.

Flightcell is a highly flexible multi-functional interface. It can simultaneously connect several devices into a headset, including a satellite phone, cellphone, radio transceiver and other audio input or output devices.

Flightcell has been widely adopted by both military and civilian users to enhance and expand their existing communications systems.

Why do you need it?
Built-in Iridium phone systems are expensive to purchase and install, and are tied to a specific aircraft.

Hand-held Iridium phones are convenient and inexpensive, but are difficult to use in aircraft because of high ambient noise levels.

Flightcell allows an Iridium 9505 phone (as well as a cellphone, radio or other audio device) to be used through a standard aviation headset, leaving the hands free for other tasks. The noise canceling technology in the headset eliminates ambient noise, delivering clear audio to both parties to the phone call.

In normal operation, Flightcell mixes intercom and ATC audio with phone audio. The ISO function in civilian versions isolates the user’s microphone from the intercom, allowing a private phone call to be made, while the ISO function in the military version isolates the user’s microphone from the phone while communicating over the ICS.

Flightcell is portable, quick to deploy and can be easily moved between aircraft, or even used outside the aircraft, providing maximum flexibility and mobility.

Because Flightcell can be run off its built-in batteries, it provides emergency communications in the event of aircraft power or radio failure.

Flightcell has been widely adopted by the United States armed forces, and by private pilots and commercial operators worldwide.

Features
Flightcell simultaneously interfaces an Iridium phone and other communications and audio equipment into one or two connected headsets. Virtually any communications or audio device can be connected: a satellite phone, cellphone, hand-held transceiver, music player, video or audio recorder, or any other specialized audio equipment, such as a medical monitors.
Flightcell comes complete with all required cables and connectors for plug and play operation, as well as an AC charger.
Flightcell can be run off its inbuilt rechargeable batteries or 10-30V aircraft power, providing maximum operating flexibility.
Flightcell is fully portable, so can be moved between aircraft, or even used on the flight line or in a vehicle
Master volume control adjusts all audio input and output levels simultaneously. Individual inputs and outputs can be adjusted to match audio levels from specific devices.
ISO function on civilian versions isolates the phone from the intercom and reduces intercom/ATC volume by 50%, allowing the user to have a private phone conversation while ATC can be monitored in the background. ISO function on military version isolates user's microphone from the phone, while incoming phone audio is reduced by 50%.
Flightcell is available in several versions to suit the different headset types used in most aircraft: GA mono (dual plug, for general aviation), GA stereo (dual plug, for general aviation), helicopter (single plug), Bose (for use with Bose X panel-powered stereo headsets), or military (single plug, low impedance)
Flightcell International will build custom versions for specific customer requirements. This includes a built-in version for Zus rail mounting in military aircraft and helicopters.
